The primary goal that the clients had for their property was to have it fit in with the unique character of the community and present a timeless approach to design and detail. The projects program included the need for a home office with meeting spaces for the husband, an indoor 25 meter lap pool and a gallery.

The result is the Main House stands distinct and separate from the barn and potting shed structures, with large expanses of lawn separating them, hiding the spaces below.

Because of the large areas and volume of space required for the art gallery and lap pool, a conscious design decision was made to locate these programmatic components below ground. A major criteria for the pool area was a physical connection to the outside and the introduction of natural light into the pool area. The angled configuration of the house to the secondary program spaces allowed the pool to be located in the rear corner of the property, the roof of the pool to be an uninterrupted part of the rear lawn, and the long side of the pool enclosure to open into a sunken garden.
